چکیده

Raman spectra of single-wall carbon nanotubes ~SWCNTs! were measured at different temperatures by varying the incident laser power. The elevated temperature of the SWCNTs and multiwall carbon nanotubes ~MWCNTs! is confirmed to be due to the presence of impurities, defects, and disorder. The temperature coefficient of the frequency of the C–C stretching mode E2g ~GM! and that of the radial breathing mode in the SWCNT were determined to be ;20.038 and ;20.013 cm/K, respectively. It is found that the temperature coefficient of the GM in the SWCNT is larger than that of the MWCNT, highly oriented pyrolytic graphite, and the graphite. This is attributed to the structural characteristic of the SWCNT—a single tubular carbon sheet with smaller diameter. © 2000 American Institute of Physics. @S0003-6951~00!04615-5#

Ab Initio Study of Chirality Effects Onphonon Spectra, Mechanical and Thermal Properties of Nearly Samediameter Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes

In this paper, we have used density functional perturbation theory (DFPT) and Pseudo-potential method to calculate the phonon spectrum, phonon density of states (DOS), specific heat capacity and mechanical properties of (5,5) armchair and (9,0) zigzag Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes (SWCNTs). Our calculations show that Young’s modulusfor (5,5) and (9,0) nanotubesare higher than 1TPa. We have also ...

Raman spectroscopy of free-standing individual semiconducting single-wall carbon nanotubes.

The radial breathing modes and tangential modes have been systematically measured on a large number of individual semiconducting single-wall carbon nanotubes (thin bundles) suspended between plots (free-standing single-wall carbon nanotubes). The strong intensity of the Raman spectra ensures the precision of the experimentally determined line shapes and frequencies of these modes. The diameter ...

Studies of multiwall carbon nanotubes using Raman spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy

We present preliminary results of Raman scattering measurements of multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT). The nanotubes have been carefully dissolved, separated and then characterized by AFM. The micro-Raman spectra of the objects are taken with 514,5nm wavelength excitations and in the temperature range 4K 400K. Basically the spectra are quite similar to the well known single wall carbon nanotube...

Temperature dependence of the optical excitation lifetime and band gap in chirality assigned semiconducting single-wall carbon nanotubes

The temperature dependence of optical excitation lifetime 1/ and transition energies Eii were measured for bucky papers of single-wall carbon nanotubes SWCNTs and inner tubes in double-wall carbon nanotubes DWCNTs using resonant Raman scattering on the radial breathing mode. The temperature dependence of and Eii is the same for both types of samples and is independent of tube chirality. The dat...
